A Grieving Mother

On 21st of February in 1952 Pakistan authorities, refusing to grant Bangla --- the language spoken by people in the then East Pakistan --- let loose police to brutally thwart a movement by Bengalis over demand that Bangla become a state language. Several lives had been lost - students and others - in that savagery which eventually achieved Bangla its due honour in Pakistan and later the glory of International Mother Language.


It was followed by cries of mothers who lost their children, hopelessness of women who lost their husbands, and others who lost their future in hands of political terrorists.
